Periodicals

The Local History and Genealogy department collects a wide variety of periodicals which cover both our immediate region in Lucas County as well as genealogical publications from around the country to aid your research. Some of these materials can be found in the library catalog, but not all of them. To aid in discovering what resources we have available for your use, we have collected the entire collection of periodicals in a spreadsheet. Below you will find a guide that explains the information contained in the spreadsheet as well as a direct link to it so you can start perusing.

Spreadsheet Column Information
Name This is the title of the publication. Some of these may be somewhat generic such as "Bulletin" so check the Publisher column for more information.
Location

This indicates where the resource physically is in the department.

  • Locations Requiring a librarian to pull the material:
    • Stack 4/env
    • Stack 4/alpha
    • Mss. Coll.
    • Vt. or Vault
    • Rare Book Room
  • Locations for materials found in our reading room
    • Ohio (county name) - These items can be found in the Ohio Counties section of the department
    • Family - These items can be found in the Family Histories section of the department
    • Film - These materials can be found on microfilm/microfiche
Status "Closed" indicates the title is no longer published, while "Current" indicates the material is still being published
Finding Aid

This indicates how the librarians keep track of the periodical

  • OPAC - Indicates the title has been cataloged
  • Card - Indicates the title has not been cataloged
  • Inventory - Indicates part of all of the title is in a manuscript collection
Bound Indicates which years of the title are available bound together into one or more volumes; typically the older issues of the title
Unbound Indicates which years of the title are available as unbound individual issues; typically the newer issues of the title
Microform Indicates which years of the title are available on microfilm or microfiche and must be used with the relevant equipment
LH&G Indicates that the periodical was purchased by the Toledo Lucas County Public Library
MVHS Indicates the periodical was purchased by the Maumee Valley Historical Society, but held in the custody of TLCPL
Former Title Indicates a title by which the periodical was previous published under
Later Title Indicates a title by which the periodical was later published under
Merged Indicates where multiple periodicals were merged into a single title
